Mercury Cinema was created in the belief
that filmmakers and other media professionals can do more than
just entertain. Media have the power to teach, reflect, and
comment on society. That’s what entertainment has done
for centuries. Mercury Cinema’s goal is to be
entertaining, sophisticated, and thought-provoking.
That doesn’t mean there’s no
fun in the productions made here, and it certainly
doesn’t mean there isn’t room for pure, escapist
fluff now and then. What Mercury Cinema won’t do is hit
the audience over the head with obvious or rehashed plots and
moral statements.
Some of the productions here will succeed
beyond expectation, and others will fail miserably. But
that’s OK. Mercury Cinema is an evolving entity. Much of
the fun will be to see where it grows from here.
